Thomas James
Hunter was born on September 19th, 2344 to Commander Jeffery Hunter
and Lieutenant Victoria Smith Hunter in Sydney, Australia. His Father
was the First Officer of the U.S.S. Heron, an Excelsior class starship
assigned to the Romulan Border. His Mother was the Chief Operations
Officer on the same vessel. They lived on earth, in Australia for
several months before his father was forced to return to his duties
on the Heron. Thomas and his mother stayed on earth for another
year and a half before she and Thomas' father decided to raise him
on the Heron. So, at the age of two years and half a month, he and
his mother went to live with his father on the Heron. Thomas adjusted
to life aboard the starship quickly, and was treated to frequent
visits to the starships bridge. The senior staff 'adopted' Thomas
early on, treating him like a family member. He was a curious child,
but it was soon found that he had a great intrest in flight operations,
and once this was discovered, the chief conn officer would often
take him into the holo-deck and guide him through some simple flight
programs.
In 2348, Victoria
and Jeffery had a second child, who they named Courtney Janet Hunter.
Thomas looked upon the new arrival with mixed feelings, afraid that
his 'family' of the senior officers would turn their attentions
to the new arrival and not to him. After a few weeks, however, it
became apparent that the senior officers made time for both children
equaly. In 2358, Thomas began school onboard the Heron, and did
fairly well in his studys, exceling in Math and History. Also during
this time, he pursued his intrest in starship flight controls with
the help of the Chief Helm Officer.
In 2360, his
brother Adam Mark Hunter was born. Thomas did not get to see much
of his brother growing up, however, because two years later, he
left the Heron to go to Starfleet Prep School in San Fransisco.
What he didn't know at the time was that his parents did not have
the money to send him to prep school, let alone pay tuition to the
acadamy. He later learned that all of the senior officers of the
Heron, and even few of the crewmen, had taken money out of their
own pockets to create a money pool to pay his way to Starfleet Acadamy.
Extreamly moved, he vowed not to let his 'family' down. For the
next six years, he worked very hard to get good marks in his classes,
which he accomplished with the exception only of his Biolgy studies.
In 2362, he
was accepted to The Starfleet Acadamy Command classes, as well as
Flight Control and Navigation classes. After four years of the Acadamy,
he graduated and was assigned to the U.S.S. Nighthalk, where he
served as Assistant Helmsman and then Chief Helmsman until 2369,
as a Lieutenant, he was assigned to the U.S.S. Victory, a Galaxy
Class starship, as the Chief Helm Officer. Here, he rose through
the ranks, becoming the Second Officer on top of his other duties,
and later on in 2375, he became the First Officer. Six months after
he was assigned as the XO, the Victory was ordered to participate
in a major offensive against the Dominion. The Victory and two other
ships were separated from the main battlegroup, and came under attack
from a wing of Jem'Hadar vessels. The captain and several other
crewmen were incapacitated when the bridge took a direct hit, leaving
Hunter in command. Keeping a clear head, he and the other two captains
were able to work in tandem, ultimately driving the Jem'Hadar ships
off, destroying two of them.
Two years later,
he was promoted to Captain and given command of the Defiant Class
U.S.S. Raptor, where he and his crew distinguished themselves in
action against the Dominion in the last year of the war. Later,
in 2378, the Raptor was involved in defending earth from the Borg.
During that battle, the Raptors port nacelle, and the entirety of
deck four was destroyed. Instead of abandoning ship, the crew simply
sealed off the damage and fought on, earning them all commendations
for Valiant Service.
In 2378, the
I.S.S. Chrono, under the command of Fleet Captain Angus Morrison,
was sacrificed by Morrison to save an alien population. Unfourtunately,
Morrison and several of his crew perished with the vessel, nessecitating
a need for a replacement Flagship of Task Force Three in Gamma Fleet.
Therfore, Commander Samuels, the XO of the late Chrono, was promoted
to Captain and given command of the Valkyrie. His time in command
of the Valkyrie was shortlived, however, due to the fact that he
struck an Admiral on the bridge of the Valkyrie after the Admiral
made an out of line comment about Captain Morrison and his ship.
Captain Hunter was touring the ship at the time, and saw the incident.
Samuels was busted in rank back to Commander, and lost command of
the ship. Captain Hunter called in a few favors, and was promoted
to Fleet Captain and given command of the U.S.S. Valkyrie, where
he immediately made Commander Samuels his XO, much to the horror
of a certain Admiral.
Captain Hunter
often ignores starfleet regulations, and has a 'cowboy' personality,
possibly due to the influence of the Chief Flight Control Officer
aboard the Heron in his younger years.
