Background: |
Savessh is half
Romulan, half Vulcan and was born in the year 2290 to a Vulcan father
and Romulan mother. Savessh's mother was a Tal'Shiar operative,
by the name of Sali. Sali was undercover at a Vulcan science outpost,
when shortly before her withdrawal by a Romulan force, her cover
was discovered. Having killed the few inhabitants of the outpost,
Sali relaxed her guard only to find that one Vulcan yet lived. It
was Sumek, a scientist who had taken leave from the based during
his time of Pon Farr, the Vulcan mating period. Unfortunately for
Sali, Sumek spotted smoke from the damaged outpost and returned
to find Sali alone.
Having been
caught by surprise, Sali had no defence against the Vulcan's Pon
Farr-inspired attack, which was enhanced by his rage from the death
of his workmates. Fleeing into the savage wilderness, Sumek left
Sali for dead, to be found by the pickup team.
Having recovered,
Sali found that she was with child, and the child was bred into
the Romulan culture.
Sali, looking
out for her own political and social advancement, and shamed by
the circumstances behind her daughter's birth, sent Savessh to Vulcan
to be with her father. This was in her 15th year. Sumek was also
secretly shamed, having lost control all those years ago. He immediately
sent Savessh away to study, which she did gladly, having no desire
to be with either of the parents that treated her so poorly.
In 2309, Savessh
undertook the trial of the Tah'sa'lok, an endurance ritual of the
Vulcan people that signifies a test of both mental and physical
strength. She passed easily, impressing her Vulcan tutors. Savessh
was placed onboard a Science and Exploration vessel as a trainee,
and was told that she was there to take notes, and learn all she
could. In reality, it was just to keep her somewhere until her tutors
could figure out what could be done with her. While onboard a shuttle
with some of the ship's crew, the Science ship ran into a radiation
storm, damaging the ship and grounding the shuttle. All onboard
the shuttle were lost, except the pilot, a Vulcan Lieutenant named
Suvem, and Savessh.
The Exploration
vessel in orbit was heavily damaged, and unable to mount a rescue
attempt for several days. Suvem and Savessh were on their own.
Savessh wanted
to explore the planet, to hunt and gather food and supplies. Suvem
told her that it was her Romulan side talking, and that they should
wait for rescue. Listening to the council of her superior, Savessh
settled in to wait for the eventual, and logical, rescue attempt.
Unfortunately, it was too late coming, and Suvem died from injuries
sustained in the crash. Savessh later discovered that had she listened
to her Romulan side, she would have found a Federation colony a
few short miles away, and that they would both have been rescued,
and Suvem would yet live.
This news caused
great distress to Savessh, although her mentors still insisted that
she did the logical thing. Finding it difficult now to relate to
the Logical-to-a-fault Vulcans, Savessh decided to leave.
Savessh joined
an independent merchant company, learning yet more survival skills.
She travelled far throughout the galaxy, hooking up with many different
races and forces. She lived for study, and that eventually led her
to Earth. There she heard a recruiting advertisement for Starfleet
Academy;
"...To
explore strange, new worlds, to seek out new life forms, and new
civilisations. To boldly go where no one has gone before..."
This simple
phrase struck a chord in her, and Savessh decided that should she
wish to learn all she could, this was the way to go. She also figured
that should she win some form of honour within Starfleet, it would
go a long way to proving her worth to her Romulan mother, her Vulcan
father, and her mentors.
Savessh completed
the training with minimal fuss, having performed most of Starfleet's
challenges in the "real world" well before most of her
classmates had even been born. Savessh was assigned to the USS New
Orleans, a starship assigned to the Romulan Neutral Zone.
Savessh was
patient, using her years as a cadet to study every aspect of Starfleet.
The only thing she didn't take to was Engineering, feeling that
it's effects were too short-reaching to make much of a difference.
Savessh took to Science, studying all varieties of anomalies and
weather-type phenomenon. Having thought about it many years later,
she realised it was probably her experience with Suvem and the Science
ship disaster that propelled her down this path.
USS PHOENIX
After completing
her assignment onboard the New Orleans, Savessh was re-assigned
to the USS Tecumseh, an Excelsior class Starship. She served as
assistant Science Officer, eventually being promoted to Chief Science
Officer, after the position became vacant.
In 2365, Savessh
was promoted to Captain of the Oberth class vessel, USS Bonestel.
A small science vessel, the Bonestel was assigned routine missions,
until two years later, with the Battle of Wolf 359. The Bonestel,
being small and unarmed, was ordered away from the path of the Borg
Cube, but Savessh ignored orders, believing that any and all available
ships would be needed against the Borg menace. Following her Romulan
instincts, Savessh entered the battle. The Bonestel was heavily
damaged, and setting a collision course, Savessh and her crew escaped
in life-pods as her ship slammed into the immense ship, buying valuable
time for the USS Enterprise, the eventual bane of the Borg.
Although officially
unimpressed by Savessh's action, she was soon assigned to the USS
Phoenix after the previous Captain is relieved of Command. Savessh
has recently been promoted to Vice Admiral.
Savessh's current
assignment is to Gamma Fleet on the very edge of the Alpha Quadrant,
near Romulan space, and first in line for the defence of the Federation
from the Borg.
Torn between
her two halves, Savessh constantly juggles her logical Vulcan side,
with her wild and savage Romulan side. She is learning to use both
halves at once, to try and become a complete, perfect officer.
